Meet the 10 Caregivers in the Running for the Home Care Company’s Top Honor

BRYN MAWR, PA / ACCESSWIRE / April 4, 2023 / Visiting Angels, the nation’s leading provider of home senior care, announces its 10 semi-finalists for its National Caregiver of the Year award. The prestigious honor recognizes Visiting Angels caregivers for their overall contribution and commitment to delivering quality care to the clients and families they serve as well as how they embody the company’s compassionate values and demonstrate excellence. The finalists were selected from entries from the 600 Visiting Angels franchise locations across the country.

“It takes a special type of person to be a compassionate caregiver. It’s a challenging job,” said Larry Meigs, CEO of Visiting Angels. “We are fortunate to have many caregivers who go above and beyond. The nominees for the 2023 Caregiver of the Year award have provided exemplary care to the seniors they serve, and it makes a profound difference. Giving clients compassionate care and allowing them to live safely in their homes with respect and dignity is significant.”

Here is the list of the 10 semi-finalists for the 2023 Visiting Angels Caregiver of the Year award.

Sherry Massey – South Charleston, WV

She is the epitome of nurturing and treats all her clients like family. She serves as a mentor to other caregivers and encourages them to call her anytime, day or night, if they need guidance. Her giving heart extends to her clients, who receive her vast knowledge and experience. One of Sherry’s clients describes her skills in caring for people as instinctive.

Sheila Soares – Pagosa Springs, CO

Sheila has had the heart of a caregiver her entire life. This caregiver is so gifted at what she does that the Pagosa Springs office has a waitlist of clients requesting her care. She goes above and beyond to care for the needs of her clients and brightens the home of even the most challenging client. Three days a week, she travels 30 miles one way down a dirt road, even in inclement weather, to care for a senior – allowing him to be independent in his home.

Keri Lacorazza – Rockford, IL

She cares deeply for her clients and knows her clients depend on her. For example, ahead of a forecasted snowstorm, Keri packed a suitcase to prepare to stay overnight, ensuring she’d be at work to help her clients. She has a level of compassion for people that cannot be taught, trained, or learned, and her high level of care has become the benchmark standard for other caregivers on the Rockford team.

Lynda Prunier – Auburn, NH

Amazing and fantastic are a few of the words clients use to describe this caregiver. She not only provides the utmost care but also treats each client with compassion, empathy, respect, and dignity. It’s clear to all that Lynda loves what she does by advocating for her clients and bringing smiles to their faces. She is dedicated to providing the best care possible and being a fantastic team player.

Lisa Follin Waynesboro, PA

She is a highly sought-after caregiver for clients because she is both professional and caring. She is committed to providing the highest level of care. Last winter, a snowstorm caused an issue with her getting on shift. The client lives about one mile from Lisa – she walked a mile to his home that day. Lisa has always stated that she wants to be the type of caregiver that she would have for her family member if needed.

Jermaine Cureton Pottstown, PA

He is a highly requested caregiver due to his consistently pleasant demeanor and the way he carries himself. He makes a positive impact while providing care in the lives of his clients. Jermaine is able to restore hope in a spiritual and emotional as well as physical way, building relationships one individual at a time. This soft-spoken man keeps his clients and team members smiling and laughing.

Tanya Knight – Alpharetta, GA

She is a committed and compassionate caregiver to her clients. She is warm and caring, with a great sense of humor that brightens the lives of everyone around her. She has pulled “all-nighters” to stay with clients who needed her and has taken on the difficult job of providing end-of-life care for more than five clients. Tanya has served as a brand ambassador, speaking at the “Walk to End Alzheimers,” leaving everyone in tears as she shared stories about a primary client.

Evelyn SantiniWinter Park, FL

She is an exceptional human being and truly cares about her clients. For her, this is more than just a job, it’s her calling to help others. When a client recently lost his wife, Evelyn was there to provide a shoulder to cry on during his grief. She remembers all the little details that make a big difference to her clients. She has set the bar high and sets the standard for what her team strives to obtain while caring for seniors in the community.

Marnie MartinezIdaho Falls, ID

She is committed to ensuring that her clients are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. She feels strongly about helping her clients maintain their independence. As an example of her love and commitment, Marnie recently continued daily care for a client who was in the final days of life, knowing that her being there would give the client and family the comfort they needed.

Julie CoveyTorrance, CA

She is selfless in helping her clients. She has grown into her role of being a primary caregiver and team leader for one senior couple as their needs have grown from part-time care to needing round-the-clock care. Julie goes above and beyond by arranging for deliveries of food and medication, among other needs. She is dedicated to keeping her clients safe and comfortable in their own homes, and they rave about her cooking.
