The Holistic Cure for America’s Healthcare Crisis

Why Some Believe the US Healthcare System is Making Us Sick

RENO, NV / ACCESSWIRE / May 16, 2023 / Many healthcare experts today feel America’s healthcare system is broken. According to the American Public Health Association, the U.S. spends more on health care but has worse health outcomes than comparable countries around the globe.

It’s true that Americans suffer from poor health issues including lower life expectancy and higher obesity rates than other high-income countries. But while politicians debate complex policy solutions, the answer to better health may be simpler than we realize.

Jason Teichner, a holistic health practitioner in Nevada, believes the key to revolutionizing healthcare lies in treating the root causes of illness, not just symptoms. After overcoming Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in his 20s, Teichner founded Sunrise Wellness Institute to help others heal naturally. His approach addresses the nutrition, oxygenation, and toxicity factors at the source of disease.

“Conventional medicine largely treats symptoms. We need to shift the focus to underlying causes of poor health,” says Teichner. “Disease is the end result of imbalance in the body and ignoring the whole person. At Sunrise Wellness, we look at everything from nutrition and toxicity to stress and PH balance.”

Teichner’s philosophy reflects an emerging approach called integrative medicine, which combines conventional and alternative methods. It considers the mind, body, and community in fostering wellness. Teichner is not alone in his belief; according to the National Institutes of Health, “The landscape of medicine in the United States has been slowly progressing toward a more holistic and individualized approach to healing. Part of this progress has been the integration between western and alternative forms of medicine, a concept that has been described as “integrative medicine.” This approach to healthcare incorporates a patient’s mind, spirituality, and sense of community into the healing process.”

With healthcare costs skyrocketing and chronic illness rising in America, many feel we need innovative solutions. Could holistic methods that reduce our reliance on drugs and medical interventions cut spending and improve public health? The answer to many seems to be yes.

Studies show holistic programs can lower health costs and risks. Some Cancer patients using integrative therapies had lower medical expenses and fewer hospital stays. Mind-body interventions decreased migraines and arthritis pain. Exercise and nutrition changes reversed diabetes and heart disease.

However, holistic medicine remains on the fringe of the U.S. system. While patients seek alternative treatments, insurance rarely covers them. Doctors get little training in integrative methods. Healthcare is designed to treat sickness rather than cultivate wellness.

To transform a “sick care” system into true health care, policymakers should support integrative approaches. Insurance coverage for lifestyle counseling, nutritional therapy and stress management could curb costs over the long run. Medical education must teach future doctors the importance of holistic health. Hospitals would do well to offer acupuncture, meditation and other wellness practices.

America has a choice. Continue pouring money into a broken system that manages disease or invest in holistic models targeting its source. Teichner is proof alternative methods can work with proper, professional guidance. Our health crisis demands we stop debating fixes and start implementing real solutions. An integrative approach could be the answer that leads to a vibrant, sustainable future for our nation’s health. Our wellbeing depends on a system designed not just to treat sickness but achieve whole health. The cure has been there all along.
