STAR’S TECH Eco-St received the technical innovation award from The Apwa Alberta chapter all thanks to their Eco-Se de-icer that has made melting snow a piece of cake.

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA / ACCESSWIRE / January 23, 2023 / Apwa Alberta Chapter recognized STAR’S TECH for their technological innovation in creating a solution to make de-icing easier and safer for pavement, sidewalks, and driveways. Each year, APWA recognizes its members’ achievements in a variety of fields by bestowing upon them prestigious prizes. Star Tech’s outstanding work on Eco-St earned them a nomination for an award, and that nomination was in the innovation area.

They used starfish extracts found in ocean trash to create ECO-ST de-icer that is easy on the planet while yet doing a good job of melting snow and ice. ECO-ST shows far greater performance compared to traditional de-icers and helps in avoidance of damages and devastation caused to coral reefs and the marine world by starfish-making it a revolutionary option.

“ECO-ST deicing product is an innovative use of starfish. Extracts from the starfish, as well as other chemicals often used in deicing products, form the basis of ECO-ST. The mandate of the Alberta Transportation Project List (TPL) is to encourage innovation and continuous improvement of products used on highways. Over the last winter, the department has collaborated with STAR’S TECH in order to obtain the information to complete the technical review. Last week, ECO-ST was approved and added to the list. Many, many congratulations…let’s celebrate innovation!” Rajan Sawhney, Minister of Transportation

Their goal was to put a stop to the harmful deicing procedures that were being used in North America. Therefore, in order to solve the many environmental issues that are associated with winter de-icers without sacrificing their effectiveness, they came up with the most comprehensive approach possible. The use of road salts, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, and other similar substances in an uncontrolled and unmonitored manner is fast causing damage to your vehicle and pathways, causing pain to the paws of your furry children, and putting you at risk for a number of respiratory problems.

The Apwa Alberta Chapter Technical Innovation award acknowledges a person, team, or organization for the creation and innovation of a new concept, technology, technique, or system that strengthens public works for the general public. Because of its exceptional capacity to de-ice surfaces, ECO-ST de-icer contributes to a reduction in the frequency of automobile accidents as well as the costs associated with rehabilitating concrete infrastructures, such as roads, bridges, automobiles, and guard rails. In addition to reducing life-threatening respiratory diseases and animal paw burns, ECO-ST reduces the yellowing of plants, which is one of the ways it mitigates damage to street trees.

Their innovative solution protects concrete, pavements, and plants from damage. It also helps save money.
